Brent School Nursing
School nurses help promote and look after children and young people’s physical and emotional health. They work across education and health, providing a link between school and home for children and young people aged five to 19-years-old and have two main roles:
- to give confidential advice, care and treatment to young people and their parents and/or carers
- to look after and protect a young person's physical and emotional health.
Brent has two teams of school nurses working with schools in the north and south of the borough. They deliver a range of programmes and support including:
- developmental screening including height, weight, vision and hearing
- health and sex education
- management of children with special needs
- a weight management service for 0 to 19-year-olds
- safeguarding children
- advice and support for teachers
Referrals to the service are usually made by the school nursing team attached to the child or young person’s school. Children and young people can also self-refer and will need to provide details such as their name, address, date of birth, GP and school.
If your child is a rising 5 due to start school in the new academic year and living in Brent you can complete the Brent school readiness checklist for your child.
